Member selection is a multi-step process. A review of the student's application is completed by the chapter's Faculty Advisory Committee (FAC) and considered with feedback from the Churchill faculty. Faculty provide feedback regarding the applicant's character and fitness for NHS - this input is taken very seriously as they spend a lot of time with the students.
Members of NHS are typically heavily involved in their school and community. They are recognized leaders by their peers. They are not merely students focused on grades.
Academic success is only used to determine a student's eligibility to apply. Students meeting the district standard of a 90 or above are eligible. GPA is not used beyond the eligibility determination.
Students must submit an application detailing their involvement in co-curricular and service activities, and the leadership positions that they have held. All entries must be confirmed via a signature, email, or certificate from the coach, sponsor, or organizer for the activity or position. Parent confirmations will not be considered valid except when it is clear that they are the organizing person. All signature verifications must be accompanied with contact information for the signer.
Applicants will be notified of the FAC decision by email following the review process. Students selected for membership will be given further details regarding membership expectations and obligations.
An induction ceremony to recognize the newly selected members will be held in April.
